As immigration continues to be a hot topic in the United States, a recent survey conducted by Ipsos revealed that a third of the country believes both legal and illegal immigration are linked to the current crisis in public safety. This is concerning, says Alejandra Ojeda, Senior Vice President of Ipsos, as it poses a risk for both immigrants and the general public. The study also found that while only 25% of Americans believe that immigrants take jobs from citizens, a much higher percentage (50%) believe they drain the economy. In addition, the majority (65%) believe that immigrants should assimilate into American culture, with only a quarter believing that they should preserve their own culture. This article presents timely information backed by data, providing insight on the public’s opinions on immigration and its connection to public safety. The Ipsos survey findings highlight the importance of educating the public on the realities of immigration, in order to combat prejudices and promote a more inclusive perspective.
