Caso convenios: RN acudirá a Contraloría y UDI pide citar a declarar a ministros Jackson, Vallejo y Montes

The ongoing investigation into Chile’s Caso Convenios (Agreements Case) has taken a dramatic turn as two major political parties have taken action. The National Renewal (RN) party has announced it will file a complaint with the Controller General of the Republic regarding the alleged irregularities in the agreements signed between the Ministry of Sports and private entities. Meanwhile, the Independent Democratic Union (UDI) party has requested a summons for three former sports ministers to testify before the investigating commission. Specifically, the UDI has singled out former ministers Natalia Riffo, Gabriel Ruiz-Tagle, and Pablo Squella, as being responsible for the signing of these allegedly illegal agreements.

The agreements in question were reportedly aimed at funding sports-related projects, but investigations have revealed that they were signed without proper oversight and were used to benefit individuals rather than the intended projects. The investigation has implicated several high-level officials, including the former head of the National Sports Institute and former members of the ministry, and has led to the arrests of several people.

The RN party’s decision to approach the Controller General of the Republic is significant, as the party has traditionally been aligned with the governing coalition, while the UDI is a right-wing party that is opposed to the current government. The move demonstrates that both parties agree that the allegations regarding the agreements require further investigation and that those responsible must be held accountable.

The Caso Convenios investigation has been making headlines for months, highlighting the need for transparency and accountability in the government’s handling of public funds. It also emphasizes the importance of journalistic investigations in uncovering corruption and holding authorities accountable. The actions taken by the RN and UDI parties indicate that political will to confront corruption exists across the spectrum, which is good news for the country’s democracy and future.
