Chile. Fabiola Campillai: «Aunque nos quieran obligar a olvidar, no lo permitiremos». Las matanzas de la dictadura en el Puente Bulnes

So, I just read this really interesting article about Chile and a woman named Fabiola Campillai who is fighting to keep the memory of the dictatorship alive. Basically, she was a victim of state violence and lost her sight after being hit by a tear gas canister during a protest. But instead of just accepting it and moving on, she’s using her experience to shed light on the atrocities committed during the Pinochet regime, specifically the massacres that happened at the Puente Bulnes.

The article goes into detail about how these killings were covered up and their survivors were silenced. But Campillai is determined to never forget what happened and make sure others don’t either. She’s even working to get a plaque installed on the bridge to honor the victims and remind people of their sacrifices.

Reading about this really struck a chord with me because it’s so important to remember our history, even the dark parts. It’s easy for people to try and sweep things under the rug or pretend they never happened, but that’s dangerous. We need to acknowledge what happened in order to move forward and prevent it from happening again.

Plus, I think it’s incredibly brave of Campillai to take such a traumatic experience and use it as fuel for activism. It’s inspiring to see someone turn their pain into something positive and impactful.

Overall, I’d highly recommend giving this article a read. It’s a powerful reminder that we can’t let anyone dictate our memory and how important it is to stand up for what we believe in.
