As the political landscape in Uruguay continues to heat up in the lead-up to the country’s national elections, a new poll has revealed staggering figures that show the ruling Frente Amplio party pulling ahead of the opposition. According to the poll conducted by Cifra, the Frente Amplio currently enjoys an 11 point lead over its main challenger, the Blancos party.
The poll, which surveyed 1,005 people in August, found that nearly a third of respondents (31%) said they plan to vote for the Frente Amplio, while only 20% said they would vote for the Blancos. The remaining respondents either said they would vote for smaller parties or were undecided.
These numbers are causing concern among Blancos supporters, as they suggest that the party is losing ground in the run-up to the elections, which are scheduled for November. The Frente Amplio has held power since 2005, and the party’s candidate, Daniel Martínez, is currently leading in most polls.
While it’s important to remember that polls are not always accurate predictors of election outcomes, this one is certainly worth paying attention to. As Uruguay’s largest opposition party, the Blancos have been hoping to unseat the Frente Amplio from power for years. If these poll numbers hold up, however, they may have to wait even longer.
