I just read an article about General Yáñez asking Carter to stop using Carabineros for political purposes in the “narco houses” demolition. It’s crazy how politics can interfere with law enforcement like this. Basically, the government wants to tear down the drug lords’ houses (which is great, right?), but Yáñez is worried that the actions are being used to gain political points. I mean, that’s messed up because it’s putting people’s safety at risk. Plus, it could make it harder for the police to do their job if the community doesn’t trust them anymore.
I remember a similar situation happening in my neighborhood a few years ago. There was a lot of crime happening in a certain area, and the police decided to crack down on it. But instead of working with the community, they just went in and started arresting everyone. Needless to say, people weren’t very happy about it and it caused a lot of tension between the police and the community.
It’s important for law enforcement to work with the community to build trust and keep everyone safe. Using police actions for political gain is dangerous and undermines the integrity of the system. Let’s hope General Yáñez and Carter can work together to do what’s best for the people and not just their own political agendas.
