So I was reading this article about a congressman in Costa Rica, called Diputado Lee, who is asking the government to “grow a pair” and put a stop to uncontrolled immigration. I mean, it’s definitely a hot topic these days, with all the controversy around it.
Basically, Diputado Lee is saying that the government needs to start actually enforcing their immigration laws, and not just letting anyone and everyone into the country. He’s worried that the influx of immigrants is going to put a strain on the country’s resources, and could also lead to an increase in crime and other social problems.
Now, I don’t know about you, but I’ve definitely seen some of these issues play out in my life. I used to live in a neighborhood with a lot of immigrants, and while I think it’s great that people from all over the world can come together and live in one place, there were definitely times when it felt like things were getting out of hand. I remember seeing some pretty sketchy stuff go down, and feeling like the police weren’t really doing anything about it.
Anyway, I think this is an important topic to be discussing right now, especially as so many people are fleeing their home countries in search of a better life. We need to find a way to balance our compassion for these people with our responsibility to our own citizens and our country as a whole.
