So, I was reading this article about lawmakers in Mexico who want to get rid of lifetime pensions for former presidents. It’s crazy to think that these ex-leaders get paid a bunch of money every year, basically just for breathing, while so many other people in the country struggle to make ends meet.
The article says that by cutting these payments, they could improve the pensions of over 300 other retired government workers. That’s a pretty big deal, especially since Mexico’s pension system has a lot of issues, and many people end up with very little to live off of after they retire.
Honestly, I think it’s about time these politicians started thinking more about the people they’re supposed to be serving, instead of just taking care of themselves once they leave office. I mean, if you’ve already been the president, you’ve probably got enough money as it is, right?
Anyway, what do you think? Do you think it’s fair for ex-presidents to get paid for life, or should that money be used to help more people in need? Let me know your thoughts!
