Disney retrasa algunos estrenos y Avatar 5 llegará 22 años después de la primera

Disney fans will have to wait a bit longer for some highly anticipated movies. The entertainment giant has announced that it is delaying several of its upcoming releases due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Among these delays is the highly anticipated Avatar 2. Fans will need to wait yet another year for the second installment, now set to release on December 16, 2022. In addition, Avatar 3 has been pushed back to December 20, 2024, and Avatar 4 to December 18, 2026. Perhaps the biggest surprise, however, is that Avatar 5 now won’t see the light of day until December 22, 2028.

This delay is significant, as the original Avatar movie debuted in 2009, meaning that Avatar 5 will come exactly 22 years after the first movie. Nevertheless, James Cameron and his team appear to be confident that their vision will be embraced by excited fans. Despite the disappointment for fans, this decision wasn’t entirely unforeseen, as Avatar 2 was set to release in December 2021 and has already been delayed multiple times due to COVID-related production issues.

At the same time, the latest part of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, Black Widow, has also been delayed from its original May 2020 release to May 7, 2021. This move allows Disney to manage their blockbusters better across the calendar year, with delays meaning that multiple hit movies are now scheduled to release in the same year. While it’s frustrating for fans to have to wait, it’s for the best that movies are released at the optimal time to ensure box office success and maximum global appeal.

Disney’s decision to delay is hardly surprising, with the pandemic continuing to ravage the entertainment industry. Other studios have also been moving release dates around, as they navigate changing lockdown restrictions and the long-term impact of COVID-19 on production schedules and moviegoing habits. Nevertheless, it’s a reminder that the pandemic isn’t over yet, and we’ll have to wait a little longer before we get to see some of the most exciting movies on the big screen.
