Fabiola Campillai anuncia proyecto que penaliza el vandalismo en sitios de memoria

So, I read this really interesting article about Fabiola Campillai and her new project to combat vandalism at sites of memory, and I have to say, it’s pretty exciting stuff.

Basically, Fabiola is trying to make it a criminal offence to deface or damage memorials, statues, and plaques that commemorate important historical events or people. This is especially relevant in Chile, where there have been a lot of instances of vandalism against sites connected to the country’s military dictatorship in the 1970s and 80s.

The idea behind the project is to make people think twice before they destroy something that represents an important part of the country’s history, and to send a message that this kind of behaviour is not acceptable. As someone who has a deep respect for history and the stories we tell about ourselves, I think this is a really important initiative.

I remember visiting a museum in Europe a few years ago, where I saw exhibits that had been vandalized during World War II. Seeing the damage done to those objects was a stark reminder of how fragile our historical legacy can be, and how important it is to protect it.

So yeah, I think Campillai’s project is a step in the right direction, and I hope it inspires others to take similar steps in their own communities. We all have a responsibility to preserve our history for future generations.
