Golpe de Estado y dictadura: Vallejo remarca "preocupación" por "negacionismo"

Recently, Colombian-American author, journalist, and translator, Andrés Felipe Solano published an essay denying the existence of a dictatorship in Perú during the 1990s. This sparked controversy and prompted Peruvian novelist, César Vallejo, to express his “concern” over the “denialism” of dictatorship and coup d’état. Vallejo notes that while it is important to have historical debates and discussions about events such as these, denying their occurrence can be dangerous. The denial of these events is particularly concerning as they impact the country’s politics and democracy. It can also have a negative impact on the social fabric of the country, leading to further division and mistrust. Vallejo stresses that we must acknowledge and learn from history to ensure we do not make the same mistakes. The denial of historical events, such as government oppression, undermines our ability to do so and can have dire consequences. This article highlights the importance of recognizing historical events for what they are and understanding the impact they have had on society.
