So, I just read this really interesting article about how youth groups from two different political parties in Uruguay are going to walk together in the Marcha del Silencio. Have you heard of it? It’s a march that takes place every year on May 20th to honor the people who were disappeared during the country’s dictatorship in the 1970s.
Anyway, the Juventudes del Frente Amplio and the Juventud Nacionalista have decided to join forces this year, which is pretty cool if you ask me. I mean, those two parties have very different ideologies, but they both believe in the importance of remembering the victims of the dictatorship and fighting against impunity.
Apparently, the idea of walking together came from a group of young people who were tired of the political division and polarization that exists in Uruguay. They thought that the Marcha del Silencio should be an opportunity for everyone to come together and demand justice for the people who suffered during the dictatorship.
I think this is a really important gesture, especially in a time when politics can feel so divisive and polarizing. It shows that even people who don’t agree on everything can work together for a common cause.
Do you think something like this could happen in your country? I feel like it’s easy to get stuck in our own political bubbles sometimes, but events like the Marcha del Silencio remind us that we’re all in this together.
