I just read an article about RN’s offensive against drug trafficking and organized crime, and it was pretty interesting. Basically, RN (which stands for Renovación Nacional) is a political party in Chile that has recently proposed a bill to toughen penalties for drug trafficking and organized crime. The bill would create stricter sentences for those involved in drug trafficking, money laundering, and other related crimes that often go hand in hand with the drug trade.
Honestly, it’s about time. Drug trafficking is such a serious problem, not just in Chile, but worldwide. I feel like sometimes people don’t realize how much damage drugs can do, not just to the individuals who use them, but to entire communities.
In the article, they mentioned a specific incident in which a young man who was involved in drug trafficking was shot and killed by police. Obviously, that’s a really tragic outcome, and I’m not saying that anyone deserves to be killed. But at the same time, I can’t help but feel a little bit like… well, if you play with fire, you’re going to get burned.
Anyway, I don’t want to get too heavy here. The point is, drug trafficking is a serious problem, and RN’s proposal seems like a step in the right direction. Of course, it remains to be seen whether the bill will actually pass, and how effective it will be if it does. But I think it’s good that they’re taking action, and hopefully other countries will follow their example.
