Matthei critica al Colmed: “Si el subsecretario Araos fuese de derecha, habrían estado chillando para que lo sacaran”

So, I just read an article about how the mayor of Providencia, Evelyn Matthei, criticized the Colmed (Chilean Medical College) for their handling of Subsecretary of Health, Dr. Alberto Dougnac, who recently resigned after being accused of sexual harassment. Matthei accused the Colmed of having different standards for politicians depending on their political affiliation. Specifically, she suggested that if Dougnac had been a right-wing politician, the Colmed would have been more vocal in calling for his resignation.

To be honest, this doesn’t surprise me at all. Politics is so divisive these days that everything becomes a political issue, even sexual harassment. It’s frustrating to see people taking sides based on party instead of holding everyone accountable for their actions.

But back to the article. Matthei is alleging that there’s a double standard at play, with the Colmed being more lenient on left-wing politicians and quicker to attack those on the right. It’ll be interesting to see if the Colmed responds to this accusation or if they just let it slide.

Overall, I think this article is important because it highlights how political beliefs can influence our perception of right and wrong. It’s not just about the actions of the person being accused, but also the political implications of holding them accountable. Let’s hope that we can move past this and create a world where sexual harassment is taken seriously regardless of political affiliation.
