I just read an article about how the Minister of Health, Enrique Paris, announced that they will be appealing a recent court decision that ruled in favor of Isapres. Apparently, Isapres were denying coverage to people who had pre-existing medical conditions, which is a big no-no. The Supreme Court finally ruled in favor of the patients, but now the minister says they need to offer more clarification and explanation to the court on how this will work in practice and what the implications of the ruling are.
Honestly, I’m not surprised at all. It seems like Isapres always try to find ways to deny coverage or charge way too much for basic services. I remember a few years ago, I had to go to the hospital for an emergency and my insurance company tried to argue that it wasn’t covered under my plan. It was such a headache dealing with them and I ended up having to pay a lot more out of pocket than I should have.
Anyway, it’s important that people have access to the healthcare that they need and aren’t discriminated against because of their medical history. It’s great to see the Supreme Court standing up for patients’ rights, and I hope the government is able to offer the necessary clarification to make sure this ruling is enforced properly.
