Relator de la ONU: “Chile enfrenta crisis ambientales atemorizantes que han violado los DDHH”

The United Nations’ Special Rapporteur on hazardous substances and wastes, Baskut Tuncak, recently expressed concern over the environmental crisis in Chile, stating that it poses serious human rights violations. In a report submitted to the UN Human Rights Council, Tuncak highlighted how Chile has been affected by a series of environmental disasters ranging from air and water pollution to deforestation and toxic waste. He also highlighted the adverse effects of mining activities on the health of indigenous communities. Tuncak called for the Chilean government to take immediate action to address these issues and enforce laws that protect citizens from human rights violations.

Chile’s environmental crisis is a wake-up call for countries around the world that prioritize economic growth over environmental protection. By ignoring the environmental crisis, people’s health and well-being are at risk. Unfortunately, many countries face similar environmental crises, and governments must make a stronger effort to address them. It is essential to establish laws and regulations that prioritize the environment and protect citizens from hazardous substances and pollution. Protecting the environment is a human rights issue, and governments must take this issue seriously.
