So, I came across this article about a comment made by the US Representative Katherine Clark’s chief deputy whip, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, and it definitely caught my attention. Apparently, she said that “women’s and LGBTQI+ rights are at risk under a Republican-controlled House, Senate and Judiciary,” which is definitely concerning.
Basically, Wasserman-Schultz is warning that if Republicans continue to hold majorities in the House and Senate, as well as in the Judicial branch, they could push legislation that harms the rights of women and the LGBTQI+ community. This includes things like restricting access to reproductive healthcare and rolling back protections for LGBTQI+ individuals.
Now, I’m not super politically-minded, but I do know a lot of people who would be directly affected by any kind of legislation that strips them of their basic rights and dignity. I mean, all humans deserve the same basic respect and rights, no matter their gender or sexual orientation.
It’s really important to keep a close eye on what our politicians are doing and to make sure they’re fighting for our rights, instead of using their power to take them away. I hope that Karen Clark is able to push back against any harmful legislation and protect the rights of all Americans, no matter who they are.
