So, I read this crazy article about a mother in Talca who had to spend 16 hours with her autistic son on a plastic chair at the hospital. Can you imagine? Apparently, the hospital didn’t have any beds or proper chairs for patients, so they just grabbed some plastic chairs from the cafeteria and stuck them in the waiting area. The mother was understandably upset and decided to take her son home, but the hospital staff didn’t agree with her decision and reported her to the authorities for “kidnapping” her own child.
It’s such a frustrating story because it highlights the lack of resources and support for people with disabilities in many parts of the world. I remember when I worked at a summer camp for kids with special needs, we had to deal with similar challenges of not having enough staff or equipment to handle all the different needs and behaviors of our campers. It’s so unfair that families like this one have to go through even more stress and hassle just to get basic healthcare services.
I think it’s important to raise awareness about these issues and advocate for better access to care and support for people with disabilities and their families. Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their abilities or challenges.
