So, I came across this crazy article about a mother who took her autistic son out of a hospital in Talca. Apparently, the poor kid was stuck on a plastic chair bed for 16 HOURS! Can you imagine? And when the mom got fed up and decided to take him home, the hospital actually reported her to the authorities for taking her own child out of a horrible situation.
From what I understand, the hospital argued that the boy needed to stay for further treatment and that the mother leaving with him was a violation of his care. However, the mother argued that her son was being mistreated and neglected, and that the hospital was not providing him with the proper care he needed.
Personally, I find it appalling that a hospital would treat any patient, let alone a child with special needs, in such a way. And to take legal action against a mother who was clearly doing what she thought was best for her child? That’s just ridiculous.
I hope that this story brings attention to the mistreatment of patients in hospitals, especially those with special needs. It is important for caregivers to advocate for their loved ones and to not be afraid to speak up when something is not right. We should all be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of our circumstances.
