Have you heard about the recent scandal at the Hospital de Talca? A mother took her autistic son out of the hospital, after he had spent 16 hours on a plastic chair instead of a proper bed, and now the hospital is suing her for it! It’s crazy, right?
Basically, this poor kid needed some medical attention, but the hospital left him sitting on a plastic chair for hours and hours, until his mom couldn’t take it anymore and decided to just take him home. And now, instead of apologizing for their mistake, the hospital is accusing the mom of kidnapping and refusing to return the boy.
I can’t believe how heartless some people can be. When my sister was in the hospital last year, the nurses were all so kind and attentive, and they made sure she was comfortable and well taken care of. It makes me angry to think that there are places where people don’t get treated with the same level of care and respect.
But I guess that’s why it’s so important to bring attention to these kinds of issues. We need to hold institutions accountable for their actions and demand that they treat everyone with dignity and compassion. And in the case of this poor autistic boy, I hope that he gets the medical attention he needs, and that the hospital realizes the error of its ways and takes steps to improve its treatment of patients in the future.
